handmade gift - vintage cameras pillow
after making an elephant pillow for a friend's birthday back in august, i knew i wanted to sew up another cute pillow for a friend whose birthday is in october, actually this friday.
this was really quick to make, just 2 squares and an invisible zip. and i think it looks really cute and it incorporates 2 things my friend loves: photography and typography. she also collects vintage cameras. the fabric is from fabric.com: Times of Your Life Cameras Blue and Moda Odds & Ends Junk Drawer Rosebud Red (which is out of stock on fabric.com at the moment, but can also be found on etsy)
i love how these fabrics ended up working together. some of the cameras on the front pick up the red color from the back.
i can't wait to give it to her, and i hope she likes it! what are your thoughts on giving handmade gifts? love it? loathe it?
This is a beautiful and thoughtful gift!
ReplyDeleteI *love* giving handmade gifts. However...there aren't many people worthy of them! I have found that there are precious few who understand the time and resources put into a handmade project...
That is so true! I won't be making too many handmade gifts. You have to make sure you enjoy the process of making the gift and that it doesn't feel like a chore! If it feels like a chore then it has to be for a Reallllly worthy recipient
DeleteNice pillow! Handmade gifts are very tricky, in my opinion. Most people don't get the effort that goes into them so I limit my giving to crafty friends, my husband (he better appreciate it!) or if there is a make that is just perfect for someone, like this pillow you have made incorporating your friend's interests.
ReplyDeleteI think my future handemade gifts will just be for babies because baby gifts are cute and fun to make. Otherwise most people who don't sew don't appreciate the effort of a handmade gift
DeleteSo cute! Love handmade gifts! They are so much more meaningful!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I agree they do feel meaningful to make and give, and I always hope the recipient finds them meaningful too
DeleteVery cute pillow! The recipient is an important element in handmade gifts. Some people appreciate them, some don't--and to the ones who don't I give more generic storebought items.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely now, after giving one hand sewn gift to a person that kinda laughed at it and didn't realize it was handmade, I'm much more careful about who I sew gifts for. It stings if a handmade gift isn't loved - I can't help but take it personally when I put in all that thought, time, love and effort into making something
